Why choose a dual language program for your children?

These benefits apply to both native English and native Spanish speakers, and research shows that a two-way immersion model especially helps English language learners become more confident and proficient.

  • Students grow strong in both English and Spanish—reading, writing and speaking with confidence.
  • Research shows that bilingual students often outperform their peers on standardized tests in Reading, Math and English over time.
  • Children learn to appreciate different cultures, build diverse friendships and develop a more global mindset.

Benefits of Two-Way Immersion

The DLA is one of 30 schools across the country that participates in a prestigious partnership with Boston College and its Two-Way Immersion for Catholic Schools program (TWIN-CS). As part of the program, we receive guidance on curriculum and other resources from TWIN-CS, and leadership has the opportunity to attend a conference every summer at the Roche Lynch School for Catholic education.

Research shows that Two-Way Immersion–bringing together native English speakers and peers fluent in another language to learn side by side–is the most effective model for bilingual education. All students get to serve as language models for one another, growing together in a shared learning environment. This is the basis of our curriculum. To be in a DLA class means all students gain fluency in both English and their native language. The goal is for students to graduate as bilingual, biliterate and culturally aware.

"What a great option for those who wish to give their kids a step up in language learning while maintaining a connection to the Catholic faith and exceptional academics! We are so glad to be able to have our son get extra support in his Spanish language development apart from what we give him at home and we can’t wait for our other children to attend in the future."

Sarah Vázquez

"I am bilingual and I want my children to speak both Spanish and English. Since starting at the Dual Language academy, my son has increased his vocabulary in both languages and I could not be more proud! Additionally, the faculty is warm and welcoming to the children. My favorite part is that they also teach traditions from my culture."

Tania Murrell

"We have really appreciated the Dual language Academy for our boys! We love that they are receiving an excellent education, learning Spanish and being supported in their faith journey!"

Kathleen Carlson

"Una opción muy buena para los que quieren dar a sus hijos la oportunidad de avanzar más en su español y también mantener contacto con la fe católica y un desarrollo académico excepcional. Hablamos español en casa, pero estamos muy contentos de que nuestro hijo pueda estar apoyado en el idioma español en la escuela también y esperamos mandar a nuestros otros hijos a la Academia en el futuro."

Program Eligibility

The benefits of dual language instruction start with early childhood. We encourage families to enroll as soon as your child(ren) becomes eligible for preschool.

To enroll in preschool, students must be fully toilet trained. Children must be at least 3 years old on or prior to July 31 to enroll in preschool, or 4 years old on or before July 31 to enroll in Pre-K. We offer both full-time and part-time early childhood classes.

Transfer students in higher grades coming from other dual language programs may be accepted through testing.

Our school is the only Catholic bilingual school in Omaha, and our students come from 30+ zip codes across the Greater Omaha area. Limited spots are available each year. It’s never too early to inquire and tour!
