These benefits apply to both native English and native Spanish speakers, and research shows that a two-way immersion model especially helps English language learners become more confident and proficient.
The DLA is one of 30 schools across the country that participates in a prestigious partnership with Boston College and its Two-Way Immersion for Catholic Schools program (TWIN-CS). As part of the program, we receive guidance on curriculum and other resources from TWIN-CS, and leadership has the opportunity to attend a conference every summer at the Roche Lynch School for Catholic education.

Research shows that Two-Way Immersion–bringing together native English speakers and peers fluent in another language to learn side by side–is the most effective model for bilingual education. All students get to serve as language models for one another, growing together in a shared learning environment. This is the basis of our curriculum. To be in a DLA class means all students gain fluency in both English and their native language. The goal is for students to graduate as bilingual, biliterate and culturally aware.

Program EligibilityThe benefits of dual language instruction start with early childhood. We encourage families to enroll as soon as your child(ren) becomes eligible for preschool. To enroll in preschool, students must be fully toilet trained. Children must be at least 3 years old on or prior to July 31 to enroll in preschool, or 4 years old on or before July 31 to enroll in Pre-K. We offer both full-time and part-time early childhood classes. Transfer students in higher grades coming from other dual language programs may be accepted through testing. Our school is the only Catholic bilingual school in Omaha, and our students come from 30+ zip codes across the Greater Omaha area. Limited spots are available each year.
